Static Ads That Sell: 15 Formats With Examples

Artjom Wagner · October 20, 2026 · 7 min read
In shortStatic ads are quick to take in and cheap to iterate on. The most successful formats combine a clear message with a clearly visible product. Test different formats for different awareness levels instead of recoloring the same layout over and over.

Why statics belong in every ad mix

Videos grab a lot of attention, but not everyone watches videos. Many people scroll fast and only stop for an image they understand instantly. Statics are also quick to produce, easy to vary and great for testing messages: when a headline wins as a static, it often works as a video hook too.

15 formats that sell

For people who don't know you yet

  1. Problem and solution: the situation your audience knows at the top, the product as the way out at the bottom. Example: “Dead tired, but your mind won't stop racing?”
  2. Big claim: one strong, believable statement in large type, with the product small underneath.
  3. Native notes: looks like a phone note or a screenshot, for example “Things my stomach holds against me.” It doesn't stand out as an ad in the feed.
  4. Social comment: a real or recreated comment as the centerpiece, such as the mom whose kids ask for their vitamins on their own every morning. Important: never pass off recreated comments as real customer reviews.
  5. Founder story: a photo of the founder with one sentence on why the product exists.

For people weighing their options

  1. Benefit stack: the product in the image, with three short benefits and check marks next to it.
  2. Us vs. them: a table comparing your product with “others,” without naming competitors.
  3. Side by side: two halves, the usual solution and its downsides on the left, yours on the right.
  4. Ingredients explained: the product in the center, with arrows pointing to the key ingredients and what they stand for, within permitted claims.
  5. How it works: three steps with icons, for example “One scoop, into water, enjoy.”
  6. Objection and answer: the typical question in quotes at the top, the honest answer below.
  7. Reasons why: “3 reasons [product] belongs in your morning routine.”

For people close to buying

  1. Testimonial: a quote with a name, stars and “verified purchase,” using real reviews only.
  2. Offer: a bundle, a free gift or a limited-time promotion, clear and large.
  3. Price per day: breaks the price down to a daily amount and compares it with something everyday, like a coffee. Add a guarantee such as “60-day money-back guarantee” if you actually offer one.

Design rules for statics

Formats and sizes

Deliver every static in 4:5 (1080 × 1350) for the feed and in 9:16 (1080 × 1920) for Stories, with text inside the safe zone. The details are in Meta ad sizes, formats and safe zones.

With AVVEN, you get statics in exactly these formats every month: 14 statics on the Starter plan, 32 on Growth and 84 on Scale, matched to your buyer types and awareness levels.

Frequently asked questions

Do static ads still work alongside video?

Yes. Statics are quick to take in, cheap to produce and often reach people who scroll past videos. In many accounts, statics are among the most reliable winners, especially with people who already know the product.

How much text can go on a static ad?

As little as possible and as much as necessary. A headline and no more than three short benefits are usually enough. Everything has to be readable on a phone in two seconds.

Which format should I test first?

Start with formats that cover different awareness levels: a problem-solution static for people who don't know you yet, a comparison for people weighing their options, and a testimonial or an offer for people who are close to buying.
